Eugene "Gene" Lyons, 65, of Applegate, Ore., formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Gene was preceded in passing by his parents, Margaret Anne and Marty Lyons; brother, John Lyons; sister, Helene Bolden; and a nephew, Jacob Lyons. He is survived by his daughter, Jasmine Lyons, of Oakland, Calif.; and by eight siblings, Martin A. (Susan) Lyons, Larry (Gerry) Lyons, Mary Jo (the late Harry) Batley, Tom (Lauren) Lyons, Cecelia Lyons, Joe (Miki) Lyons, Margie (Neal) Warden and Dan (Carol) Lyons. He is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews, nine cousins and many friends here and in Oregon. Gene was an organic farmer in Applegate and also a talented amateur photographer of wild life (birds). He was owner and operator of Penn's Woods Organic Grocery in the Strip District in the early 1990s and remained passionate about the benefits of organic farming. Gene was also a hospice volunteer in Oregon. He was a gentle and peaceful man who touched many people in need. He will remain in our hearts. Friends will be received 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to National wildlife Foundation, P.O. Box 1583 Merrifield, VA 22116-1583, or Mt. Lion Foundation, P.O. Box 1896 Sacramento, CA 95812.

Gene and I had a lot of good laughs together. At one time (I think in the latter 80's or early 90's) we even shared a lot of our mutual trust in and walk with Christ. We always enjoyed one another's company, I mis him already.
